March 20, 2020, due to COVID-19 – The Office of the Auditor General shifted to remote working for all team members with no downtime or suspension of work.

The mandatory shelter-at-home from April 4, 2020 to May 2, 2020 attributed to a few entities experiencing delays or difficulty accessing financial or operational information to advance their audits. We understood and expected business disruptions and their financial reporting process being affected.

September 2020, The Auditor General made the decision to defer all audits in-progress and those audits assessed as audit-ready (meaning their financial accounts and supporting schedule had been submitted, reviewed, and ready to be scheduled for audit) to after the audit of the Government Consolidated Fund.   The Government Consolidated Fund audit, due to COVID-19 disruptions statutory period was extended from July 31, 2020 to September 30, 2020.  The audits deferred are on the work in progress tab under ‘Our Universe’ on this website marked by two asterisks.

To continue to bring more transparency to what we do and what we are working on, this website is updated regularly for details of our audit universe and the audits in progress along with the dates of audit completion. 

NOTICE TO CLIENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS

Due to recent developments and changes to the landscape, the Office of the Auditor-General has put a contingency plan in place to ensure safety to our team, clients and stakeholders. The physical office will be closed until further notice.  Team members are working remotely and can be contacted via email and/or phone. Please call 296-3148 to speak to any team member.

Our work hours will remain the same and we will strive to maintain the same professionalism and productivity as normal.  However, there is the potential that there could be delays in deliverables because of further COVID-19 developments. 

We are committed to keep our team and clients safe and healthy during this period and we appreciate your flexibility, understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our community and loved ones healthy.

Heather Jacobs Matthews retired as Auditor-General on May 11, 2016.

Heather Thomas, the former Director of Internal Audit, will take up her duties as Auditor General on Monday, June 6, 2016.
